Cobuilder’s drive for energy transition

In late 2024 Cobuilder won a project funded by the SUSTAIN Eurocluster which addresses the challenges and demands of the energy transition within the building and housing sectors.

Cobuildser is a major driver for digitalization in the construction industry and is a strategic contributor to ISO, buildingSMART, CEN and CENELEC.

About the SUSTAIN Eurocluster:

  • Supports adoption of the Smart Readiness Indicators (SRI) for accelerated green and digital transition.
  • Seeks companies aiming to integrate BIM, AI, IoT, AR/VR, Building Energy Management Systems, and Energy Performance Certificates.
  • Aims to boost market readiness and resilience in the sector, aligning with the EU Industrial Strategy.

About Cobuilder’s award:

  • The Silver Award is granted to high TRL (Technology Readiness Level 7-8) solutions, ready for market adoption.
  • Project focuses on integrating SRI into BIM as a structured, interoperable information requirement according to ISO 7817-1

*One single score classifies the building’s smart readiness | 8 impact criteria

What is an SRI?

  • A measure of smart technology application to optimize energy efficiency, comfort, and sustainability.
  • Introduced under the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).
  • EPBD mandates digital solutions for energy performance and smart readiness.

Currently, SRI assessments are post-construction and lack standardization, and Cobuilder will use BIM to manage SRI data as structured, machine-readable information.

The project opens new avenues for Cobuilder’s growth:

  • It will equip Cobuilder Require (prev. Cobuilder Link) with a new Library of requirements dedicated to Smart Readiness Indicator (SRI) assessments, extending its usefulness to clients.
  • The exposure will also provide Cobuilder with valuable feedback both on Cobuilder Require’s capabilities and Cobuilder’s overall understanding of the SRI and the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD).

More updates on the project will come in the following months. A white paper on the topic will also be available.
