What Norway’s BREEAM data reveals about certified projects

BREEAM-NOR is Norway’s leading environmental certification standard for buildings, developed by Grønn Byggallianse to assess and document sustainability performance across construction projects.

Today, BREEAM certification is more than an environmental benchmark. It can strengthen a building’s commercial value, support access to better financing and contribute to higher rental income.

As sustainability requirements and expectations increase, so does the volume of documentation needed to achieve BREEAM-NOR certification. Collecting, structuring and verifying the evidence behind each credit is becoming one of the most demanding parts of the process.

So where is that documentation being managed? We looked at Norway’s BREEAM-NOR certification data from 2023 to 2026, and the numbers reveal a clear pattern.

We compared an official BREEAM projects registry against the projects running inside Cobuilder Collaborate.

The result, based on an analysis carried out in May 2026: of the 350 projects certified in Norway between 2023 and 22 May 2026, 67%, roughly two in three, were documented in Collaborate.

BREEAM-NOR certification is documentation-intensive by design. Credits rely on verifiable evidence, from material declarations and VOC requirements to environmental product data. That information must be complete, traceable and ready for independent assessment.

This is where Cobuilder Collaborate supports project teams.

Contractors can enable the BREEAM-NOR requirement on a project and invite suppliers to submit the required product information directly into the project. Structured data is collected and checked against the requirement, while dashboards highlight missing documentation and deviation management supports the final quality checks before assessment.

Cobuilder’s sustainability reporting service further supports the collection and structuring of environmental data for frameworks and requirements such as BREEAM-NOR, TEK17, CSRD, ESRS E1 to E5, and more.

Without a structured digital process, project teams can spend considerable time compiling product lists, chasing documentation and quality-checking evidence before submitting it to a BREEAM assessor. A shared source of structured product information reduces this manual work and gives teams better control over documentation throughout the project.

That helps explain why Cobuilder Collaborate has become widely used across BREEAM-NOR projects. Today, more than 2,500 customers use the platform, with around 480 new projects created every month.

BREEAM-NOR is not the only certification showing this pattern. The Nordic Swan Ecolabel (NSE) is used on a smaller scale in Norway than in Sweden, but the data points in the same direction.

Of the 107 NSE-certified projects in Norway, 25 contractors are involved, and 16 of them are Collaborate clients. Those clients are responsible for 87 of the 107 projects.

A single client, JM Norge, accounts for 65 of the 107, reflecting a business built around Nordic Swan certified homes.

For Nordic Swan Ecolabel projects, Collaborate checks product GTINs against the relevant official portal, depending on the requirement version: the Nordic Ecolabelling Portal for NSE Generation 3, and the Supply Chain Declaration Portal for NSE Generation 4. It then flags anything missing or non-compliant.

Across both certification schemes, the message is consistent: as certification requirements grow, so does the need for structured, traceable documentation.
