The international project between Portugal and Norway aims to raise awareness on Data Templates to enable integrated data for efficient and sustainable construction.

GrowingCircle project has an ambitious goal to set up a product catalogue and promote digitalisation among Portuguese construction companies and associations by using Cobuilder solutions. The initiative is promoted by Instituto da Construção, part of University of Porto in Portugal and NTNU – Trondheim University in Norway, supported by the EEA Grants 2014-2021, Iceland, Lichtenstein and Norway Grants, Environment, Climate Change and Low Carbon Economy Programme.

“We aim to enhance the digitalisation trends in the construction sector in Portugal. To achieve this, it is necessary to develop mechanisms to foster information systematisation, integration, management, maintenance and tracking of the built objects and the construction products that compose them.” – explains Pedro Mêda, Researcher and Project Manager at Instituto da Construção – Porto University, Faculty of Engineering and Technical Coordinator of the GrowingCircle project.

The Growing Circle project includes series of webinars that will promote better information for Portuguese construction actors as well as development of scientific literature and case studies based on a building renovation. Moreover, setting up 12 Data Templates of construction objects in Portuguese and a context in Define would additionally increase accessibility potential for the local construction sector.

“Data Templates are the standard and interoperable metadata structures with the capability of responding to digitalisation challenges, contributing to the effective implementation of more circular, more efficient and environmentally friendly practices.” – adds Pedro Mêda.

“Cobuilder provides the methodology of Data Templates and standard-based digital language allowing the implementation of construction data management solutions in the Portuguese build context. We know how important is to align our efforts towards a common language that would allow interoperability and quality data at international level.”- said Lars Chr Fredenlund, CEO and Founder of Cobuilder.

Further collaborations with GrowingCircle would contribute to a wider access to construction innovation tools according to the latest international standards EN ISO 23386 and 23387, as well as the recent recommendations provided by the EU Green Deal and international institutions.
